ON CAMPUS

Rathi is a well-known cattle breed of
the North-Western desert of Rajasthan State. The purebreds are maintained in
Bikaner, Sriganganagar, and Hanumangarh districts.
Rathi is a moderate milch breed, which is well adapted to agro-climatical
conditions of arid and semi-arid areas. Livestock Research Station has been
developed for undertaking improvement and conservation of Rathi cattle
germplasm through selective breeding in a closed herd system.
This evaluation, conservation, and scientific breed improvement
have shown encouraging results. All the animals maintained under
this project will be provided uniform management conditions.
For optimum expression of growth, production, and reproduction potentials,
the animals should be given optimal nutritional regimes,
protection against diseases, and appropriate housing and husbandry practices.
